Amandah Wilkinson accepted to answer some of our questions
Hi Amandah, hows it going? where are you answering our questions from?
Hello hello 🙂 I’m going good, I am answering from my bedroom on the Gold Coast where it is grey & raining!
Can you just tell me a bit about the band? Sort of the boring, basic story you have to tell every journalist you speak to:
Well I started the band in high school for a competition. I hand picked the band members without really knowing too much about them, only knowing what instrument they played. We didn’t really think much of it back in the day but we enjoyed making music together and decided to keep doing it as a hobby. It just kept moving forward & forward – until we decided that maybe we could try and make something of it. So we started getting asked to play house parties & made friends with some bands in the local scene that asked us to play shows with them – everything kind of kickstarted when we started playing shows outside of school and people started taking notice and coming to those shows.
The album has a lot of high points. ‘Back and Forth’ is my favourite track on there. What is your favourite song on the album and why?
My favourite song on « Gloves » honestly changes every week. All of those songs are my babies, having said that I think « LOGIC » is still my all time favourite. It was kind of the turning point for me where I started really singing. I like the contrast between the verse and the chorus & it’s the song where I first discovered my inner « Britney »
If you could have played on or written any song, what would it be?
I’ve always wanted someone to ask me this question! So many times I have thought about it and come up with an answer but now that the question is right in front of me I am kind of startled. I’d have to go for something by Prince or the Eurythmics!
So the Prince song I wish I’d written is of course « WHEN DOVES CRY » – love the minimalist approach to it and how bare and vulnerable it is but still so strong at the same time. Everything interviews at the exact right moments!!!
The Eurythmics song I wish I had written is « When Tomorrow Comes » – something about that song just crushes my heart so much.
The bridge is where it really really kills me!
What has been the most memorable gig that you’ve played? And how about most memorable you’ve attended?
The most memorable gig that we’ve played would have to be 2010 NYE on Phillip Island. It was at a festival called PYRAMID ROCK,
this show definitely topped off my year and was a perfect way to ring in 2011.
The most memorable gig I have been to would have to have been Jenny Wilson in 2008 I think it was. Could have even been earlier.
I didn’t know anything about her and I walked into this show and my mind was BLOWN! Everything about her was amazing, stage persona, attire, voice.
Do you read a lot of your reviews online then?
Never. That’s something I’ve learnt NOT to do.
When was the last time you Googled yourself?
I don’t google myself either. Better not to know.
Who would be your dream collaboration and why?
I’d love to write with The Neptunes. They’ve always been on my list. Because mainly every song I like on the radio was produced by them. I think they balance that line of being successful but in an interesting way. Every one of their songs sounds slightly left field without being too strange so people can’t handle it. I think that’s a very difficult line to be able to balance on.
To conclude with,
What posters did you have on your bedroom wall?
I had a JTT poster – you know Randy from Home Improvement. I thought he was my world. I also had HEAPS of Hanson posters too ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha.
If you were to put your IPod on shuffle right now, what songs are reoccurring at the moment?
Dancehall Queen – ROBYN
I wonder if I take you home – LISA LISA & THE CULT JAM
Can you tell me some words in French? 🙂
I only learnt really how to say 1 thing ha ha ha. Jes Vou tres – une cafe olay acev deaux sucre….
(I can’t spell) ha ha ha ha ha. I suck.
Any closing words for TEEZ’FM listeners?
