I first heard Sampa The Great a couple of years ago, where she seemed to be finding her feet with a number of stripped back soul songs that stood out for their relatable and insightful lyrics.
Since then her sound has developed and following a lo-fi, hip-hop tinged collaborative project with Silentjay her new track Final Form refines her style even further. The video was shot in Zambia and Botswana by Sanjay De Silva, and finds Sampa The Great exploring her roots.
About the song Sampa says : “’Final Form’ is about expanding yourself and calling out any negativity towards that growth process. As an artist I now recognise my in-between stage; sometimes it drops and sometimes it rises, but I love that I get to level up each second. I might even final form tomorrow.”
