As complex as Glitter Wasteland’s singer Siri Jantey‘s origin (Vietnam/Laos/Cambodia/China, childhood in Thailand, emigration to Switzerland and longer stays in Los Angeles), as multi-layered as her tracks: Over punchy drums, seriously deep and driving bass lines, strong ambient soundscapes and hypnotic melodies she’s telling us intriguing tales of the night.

For those readers who may not know who Glitter Wasteland is, how would you describe your sound?
It’s an escape into the night when you are feeling like there is no more holding back to what you believe. Or simply dark pop with huge soundscapes, electronics with an organic twist.

At TEEZ’ we have been in love with your single since first listen, its totally BRILLIANT! Who are your musical influences?
There are so many things in life that inspire me. I don’t think there is one particular artist, it can be anybody creating something special, or even anything – a sound, a word, an emotion, really anything can bring you that kind of moment to write about.

How have you found working with Timo Loosli and Marco Neeser?
The last couple of years I’ve been living in Switzerland – which is small, and sooner or later you will find your soulmates. Or partners in crime.

What do you do in your spare time when you are not in the studio or writing tracks?
Right now, it’s about music almost all the time. The work’s not done once the track is finished – you start thinking about distribution, setting up a concept for artwork, playing live and so on.

Do you play any musical instruments yourself?
I know to play the piano a little bit. I’m not a virtuoso on it, but it helps a lot during the process of songwriting.

Who’s your favourite up and coming singer?
FKA twigs. I love the way she puts her music like it’s a piece of art.

Who would you love to collaborate with?
James Blake.

The song that makes your heart skip a beat is?
James Blake’s performance of Limit to your love

What’s planned in the future for you?
After the release of the single we’ll follow up with another single, plus an EP. Later on, the debut album will follow, and hopefully we can play a lot of gigs all over the planet.

Finally, if Glitter Wasteland was an animal (other than an owl!), what animal would you be and why?
A butterfly. I even got four of them tattooed on my body. I believe that life is a process of what made you to become the future you, just like the process of the caterpillar becoming a beautiful butterfly.
