Late night bike riding and endless love for retro synthesizers inspired Ester Ideskog to compose synth-heavy electro pop as her alter ego Vanbot. Now she’s back with her new single, When My Heart Breaks, which is about the exhilaration a certain moment brings and the lack of power to maintain it.

The self-titled debut album was released in 2011 on Vanbot’s own label, Lisch Recordings that received rave reviews in Europe and the US. After performing in both Europe and the US, new songs were inspired by the idea of creating tension between the beautiful and the skewed; to find a balance between catchy melodies and twisted synthesizers. The focus is still on the melodies, but with more distorted elements.

Hello Vanbot, how have you been since our last interview?
I’ve been good, thank you! How have you been?

What happened since the promotion of your first album ended?

After the release of my debut album we’ve been performing around in Sweden , Europe and the US. It’s been a great time! I’ve had the chance to meet a lot of interesting people and I’ve learned so much about how things work in this business. Last fall I started focusing on the new album went back to the studio.

We love your new single Hold This Moment which is a powerful pop track. What is it actually about?
Thank you! Hold This Moment is about about the exhilaration a certain moment brings and the lack of power to maintain it. You know when you just wanna stay in a moment forever.

Does new single imply new album?
Absolutely, there is an album coming later this year, so stay alert!

Can you tell us a bit more about it? Do you already know the date of release?
It will be released in the fall of 2013, but there´s no release date set yet.

When you started writing the 2nd album with Sebastian, did you already know what you expected in terms of sound?
I’m inspired by the idea of creating tension between the beautiful and the skewed. I tried to find a balance between catchy melodies and twisted synthesizers. You will absolutely
recognize the Vanbot sound, the focus is still on the melodies, but with more distorted elements.

Do you have a particular favourite track on the new album? A favourite one to play live?
There is this one song that starts like a ballad and then burst out into a heavy club beat, I LOVE to play that live! It always seems to surprise the audience!

How do you feel about the current age of the blogosphere and bloggers alike? They must really benefit you in a sense that your music is being put out there to the masses.
Yes, there are great possibilities to spread the music on blogs and social networks. And they have really played an important role when it comes to promote my music and connecting with fans.

Do you have any major influences that can be heard on your new album, contemporary or from the past?
I’m influenced by a lot of different music such as Kraftwerk, Tears For Fears, The Naked and the Famous, Crystal Castles, Grimes. I’m inspired by melodies that immediately sticks combined with raw synthesizers.

When checking out your lastfm page, similar artists are :
Ronika, Full Of Keys, Emmon, Amanda Mair, Navet and White Sea do you agree with this?

Haha, I haven’t listened to any of these artists! But now I will!

What do you think of the Nordic music scene?
I’m really proud of my fellow Swedish songwriters, producers and artists! I listen a lot to Swedish music.

Can you tell me 5 tracks that you are listening to at the moment?
Goldroom – Fifteen
Håkan Hellström – Pistol
Apparat – A Violent Sky
Tove Lo – Habits
Cut Copy – Need You Now
